Almost everything you touched today was a chemistry problem someone solved. Glass that is not quite a solid, soap that persuades oil and water to cooperate, bread that rises because of an organism doing its own thing in the dark. These episodes stay close to the everyday, taking ordinary substances and following them down to the molecules that make them behave as they do. It is the most tangible of the categories, and one of the easiest to drift off inside.
